Israel orders Gaza City evacuation, names new so-called ‘safe zone’

As it threatened a new evacuation of Gaza City, the Israeli military announced plans to establish what it called another “humanitarian zone” in al-Mawasi, south of Khan Younis.

The army said the site would include field hospitals, desalination plants, water pipelines, and food distribution centres.

Al-Mawasi, a tented camp in southern Gaza already declared a “safe zone” earlier in the war, is severely overcrowded and has come under repeated Israeli bombardment. Hundreds of displaced civilians taking shelter there have been killed by Israel.
